On 17 September 1988, after prolonged suffering, Father Daniel Van Damme was called to the Lord at the Convent of Mechelen in his home Province of Belgium.

Born in 1911, he joined the Franciscan Order in 1928 and was ordained priest in 1935. After studies in Rome he arrived in China in 1938. For a few years he served as assistant at the Franciscan Procure in Tientsin and as a missionary in Weihaiwei. During the war he had to spend together with many other missionaries two years in a concentration camp. After the war he went to the diocese of Ichang, Hupeh, but returned soon to Tientsin whence he was expelled in 1950 because of his dedicated work with the Legion of Mary, From 1951 to 1957 he was secretary of the Apostolic Internunciature in Taipei, From 1957 onward he served as assistant in the General Procuration of the Order in Kowloon until a serious illness ended his activity. Two of his own brothers arrived in February to accompany him back to Belgium. There, during confined to bed for the last six months, he endured in patience his long drawn pain, preparing himself to welcome in the spirit of St. Francis “Sister Bodily Death”.

方濟會范達謨神父安息

比 利 時 籍 方 濟 會 士 范 達 謨 神 父 ， 於 一 九 八 八 年 九 月 十 七 日 在 其 會 省 麥 克 蘭 會 院 安 息 主 懷 ， 享 年 七 十 七 歲 。

范 神 父 一 九 一 一 年 出 生 於 羅 克 蘭 ， 一 九 二 八 年 加 入 方 濟 會 ， 一 九 三 五 年 晉 鐸 。 一 九 三 八 年 來 華 傳 教 。 先 在 天 津 任 帳 房 助 理 ， 繼 赴 威 海 衛 傳 教 。

二 次 大 戰 後 范 神 父 旋 即 往 宜 昌 ， 湖 北 及 天 津 服 務 。 一 九 五 ０ 年 因 「領 導 聖 母 軍」 罪 名 被 逐 出 境 。

范 神 父 於 一 九 五 一 年 到 五 七 年 期 間 在 台 北 教 廷 駐 華 大 使 館 服 務 。 後 來 港 服 務 於 九 龍 帳 房 ， 直 到 去 年 病 重 為 止 。
