Death of Father Alessio, P.I.M.E.

Father Joseph Alessio, PIME, for many years
assistant priest at the Cathedral, Hong Kong, died at Treviso after a heart attack, on
1
February 1967, aged 57.
Father Alessio was born in Italy on 27 November 1909. He entered the Treviso Diocesan
Seminary in October 1919, and joined the PIME Seminary at Monza, Milan, during his study
of Philosophy, on 10 October 1927. He was ordained in Milan Cathedral on 12 March 1932 and
left for Hong Kong on the following 30 September.
After language study at St. Margaret’s, Happy Valley he started his missionary
work in the rural district of Wan Lak, Waichow. He was appointed Rector of the new district of It T'ai
Lung in 1936.
During the war, after a period in Canton, he came to Hong Kong as assistant priest at the
Cathedral, spending also some time in Macao.
In 1948 he became assistant to Father Maestrini at the Catholic Truth Society. In 1948 he
returned to the Cathedral, remaining there as assistant priest till 1956, when he was
appointed Spiritual Director of Holy Spirit Seminary, Taikoulao.
In 1958 he returned once more to the Cathedral, working there till his appointment as
Spiritual Director of the PIME Seminary at Treviso, Italy, in 1965.

病逝義大利
曾 在 香 港 教 區 傳 教 數 十 年 之 心 至 誠 神 父 ，
於 一 九 六 七 年 二 月 一 日 心 臟 病 突 發 ， 病 逝 於 其 祖 國
義 大 利 德 納 維 蘇 。
心 神 父 於 一 九 ０ 九 年 十 一 月 廿 七 日 出 生 於
義 大 利 ， 一 九 一 九 年 進 入 德 納 維 蘇 教 區 修 院 ， 在 念
哲 學 時 轉 入 米 蘭 外 方 傳 教 會 ， 時 為 一 九 二 七 年 十 月
。 一 九 三 二 年 三 月 十 二 日 在 米 蘭 總 堂 晉 鐸 ， 是 年 九
月 即 被 派 來 香 港 傳 教 。
到 港 後 初 在 聖 瑪 加 利 大 堂 學 習 本 地 語 ， 後
曾 在 廣 州 、 澳 門 、 香 港 等 地 傳 教 。 一 九 四 八 年 任 公
教 真 理 學 會 副 主 任 。 一 九 四 八 至 一 九 五 六 年 為 總 堂
助 理 司 鐸 。 一 九 五 六 至 五 七 年 曾 任 聖 神 修 院 神 師 ；
後 又 調 回 總 堂 ， 至 一 九 六 五 年 回 國 ， 被 任 為 米 蘭 德
納 維 蘇 會 神 師 至 逝 世 。 望 各 教 友 代 禱 ， 求 天 主 賜 彼
早 登 天 國 。
