Mother Maria Sardinha
Canossian Daughter of Charity
R.I.P.
Mother Maria Sardinha was born in Macao on 8 August 1893 and died in Hong Kong on 14 May 1983, a few months short of 90 years old.
In her primary-school days, she came to know the first Canossian Sisters, and the call of the Lord was soon heard in her young heart.
At twenty, she joined the Canossian Institute and was sent to Italy for her Novitiate. She was to spend 69 years in religious life.
Her long life was one of loving and humble service wherever obedience called her. In her precious ministry she opened wide her heart and her mind, trying to please everyone with the sacrifice of herself.
From 1978 onward, in consequence of a bad full, she was
confined to bed. Day by day, she “completed in herself what is missing to the
Passion of Christ”, that through the Cross she might attain to eternal light.
