Sister Maria Teresa Yeung died at Maryknoll Hospital on Saturday, 3 April 1971, aged 68.

Sister Maria Teresa was born in Canton, in 1902.

In 1921 when the Maryknoll Sisters came to Kowloon, young Maria Teresa Yeung was an invaluable help to them - shopping with them, teaching them, helping them to understand and to value the culture of the people, helping them also to set up a small sewing department as a means of support.

Later, herself a Maryknoll Sister, Sister Maria Teresa developed the Sewing and Embroidery Department into a training centre from which girls and women went out into well paid posts all over Hong Kong.

Ultimately ill-health took Sister from her workroom but not from its workers: she spent her last energies finding employment for her “girls” - ranging in age from fifteen to sixty.

The Requiem was celebrated at Maryknoll Convert on 7 April.

瑪利諾會失元老
楊修女蒙主寵召

瑪 利 諾 女 修 會 楊 瑪 利 亞 修 女 ， 於 一 九 七 一 年 四 月 三 日 晚 上 九 時 於 黃 大 仙 聖 母 醫 院 蒙 主 寵 召 ， 享 年 六 十 九 歲 ， 楊 修 女 為 參 加 該 修 會 的 首 名 中 國 女 子 。

楊 修 女 遺 體 於 本 月 六 日 上 午 九 時 運 往 該 會 界 限 街 會 院 舉 行 共 祭 大 禮 安 所 彌 撒 後 ， 隨 即 安 葬 於 跑 馬 地 天 主 教 墳 場 ， 柩 車 於 十 一 時 到 達 跑 馬 地 時 素 車 白 馬 ， 備 極 榮 哀 。 因 楊 修 女 於 過 去 數 十 年 中 曾 盡 己 力 量 協 助 各 階 層 人 士 解 決 問 題 。

按 楊 修 女 於 一 九 ０ 二 年 生 於 廣 東 ， 一 九 二 一 年 間 瑪 利 諾 會 修 女 首 批 來 港 時 ， 楊 修 女 在 指 導 彼 等 研 究 中 國 文 化 風 俗 習 慣 方 面 及 協 助 工 作 方 面 貢 獻 頗 大 。 一 九 二 六 年 進 入 瑪 利 諾 會 赴 紐 約 總 院 學 習 兩 年 ， 發 聖 願 後 ， 回 港 擴 充 她 為 該 會 創 立 的 縫 紉 及 刺 綉 部 門 成 為 訓 練 中 心 ， 多 年 來 ， 使 受 訓 的 女 子 有 一 技 之 長 ， 解 決 生 活 問 題 ， 直 至 死 前 ， 她 仍 不 斷 為 該 中 心 効 勞 。
